A New Opportunity for Inverell: Lake Tourism as a Second Major Event

Alongside the well-established Rale Rasic Joeys Mini World Cup Tournament, there is a valuable opportunity to create a second major tourism drawcard for Inverell – a Lake Inverell-based wildlife and nature tourism initiative. By building on the momentum of our existing sporting success, this new event could further boost local business and economic growth.

As previously highlighted, birdwatching and wildlife photography already contribute over $500 million annually to Australia's tourism industry. There is absolutely no reason why Inverell cannot tap into this thriving market. With the stunning natural setting of Lake Inverell and the added potential of Copeton Dam, our region is perfectly positioned to become a key destination for nature tourism.

We propose a seasonal program focused on the prime months of October, November, January, and February, with additional opportunities for educational tours and wildlife educational photography experiences year-round. These could be expanded to include Copeton Dam, offering a even more comprehensive natural tourism package.

Inverell is in urgent need of new avenues to attract visitors and stimulate the local economy. Establishing a dedicated group to lobby for and develop this nature tourism push will help fill a current void – bringing in fresh energy, new business, and increased visibility to the town.

Importantly, several community members have already stepped forward to support this vision. We are off to a promising start.

If you have experience to share, a passion for the environment, or creative ideas to offer, we’d love for you to be part of this exciting journey. Over the past nine years, I’ve been documenting the wildlife and natural beauty of Lake Inverell, and these efforts are proudly featured on the Hometown Inverell website. With this strong foundation already in place, we’re not starting from scratch—we’re stepping into something with real momentum. Let’s build on this energy and work together to protect and celebrate one of Inverell’s greatest treasures. See you Saturday 3td of May 2025 at Lake Inverell. Our first meeting will start at 8 am with a Lake clean up. 9:15 am we will have a morning tea and a discussion about our vision. kayaks and morning tea is supplied by Joeys Adventure Tours.

Let’s work together to create something that benefits our community – now and for future generations! Please make sure to RSVP, so we can have numbers for kayaks and morning tea. You can ring me on 0427210359 or email ro ffifthco@me.com. Do not text, do not use Facebook for your booking.
